The Cork Women's and Schoolgirls Soccer League (CWSSL) has unveiled a groundbreaking five-year partnership with Coerver Coaching, marking a significant advancement in Irish women's football development. This initiative, reminiscent of successful grassroots programs in other regions, aims to revolutionize girls' football training across Cork.

Professional Development Structure

The program introduces weekly girls-only academies, 3v3 tournaments, and talent identification events, providing young players with increased professional-level training opportunities. Tim Mawe and Denis Behan will lead the initiative alongside Cork City WU17 manager Derek Coughlan, bringing expertise similar to elite-level training methods seen in international football.

Comprehensive Youth Development

CWSSL chairperson Brian Murphy emphasized the program's significance: "It's a game changer for us. We're moving from volunteer-based sessions to a professionally managed structure, ensuring consistent, high-quality training for all skill levels."

We want them to have extra time with playing football and this is what Coerver is aimed towards, that they'll have extra sessions during the week away from their academy.

Building Long-term Success

The initiative complements existing club academies rather than competing with them, similar to successful community-based programs in Cork. Key features include:

  • Professional coaching staff ensuring consistent training quality
  • Regular competitive opportunities through tournaments
  • Inclusive programming for all skill levels
  • Enhanced player development pathways

Future Impact

This partnership represents one of the most significant youth development initiatives in CWSSL's history, promising to elevate women's football standards across Cork while creating sustainable pathways for young players.
