Daniel Aruebose Murder Investigation: Second Suspect Released Without Charge
A man arrested at Dublin Airport in connection with the suspected murder of three-year-old Daniel Aruebose has been released without charge, as gardaí continue their investigation into the tragic death of the young boy whose remains were discovered last September.
The suspect, aged in his late twenties, was detained by gardaí on Tuesday upon his arrival from Brazil via Lisbon. He had been living in Brazil in recent years before being arrested for immigration violations in December and subsequently deported to Ireland.
Investigation Continues Despite Release
The man was held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, but has now been released without charge. A garda spokesman confirmed that "a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions."
This marks the second arrest in connection with Daniel's murder. A woman in her twenties was previously detained on December 22 on suspicion of murder before also being released without charge.
A Case That Shocked the Nation
Daniel Aruebose's tragic story has deeply moved communities across Ireland. The young boy was last seen alive in 2021 at the Gallery Apartments in Donabate, but his disappearance was never reported. His case only came to light last August when social welfare inquiries raised concerns about his wellbeing.
The discovery of Daniel's remains in a shallow grave at a waste site off the Portrane Road in Donabate has highlighted serious questions about child protection systems and the vulnerability of our youngest citizens.
Upgraded to Homicide Investigation
On December 11, on what would have been Daniel's eighth birthday, gardaí formally upgraded the case to a homicide investigation. This critical step has granted investigators enhanced powers, including the ability to seek court warrants for searches and arrest suspects for questioning.
Detectives believe Daniel died as a result of another person's actions and are working to establish whether this constitutes murder or an accidental killing. The investigation has taken gardaí across borders, with officers travelling to the UK, the west of Ireland, and Munster to interview relatives and gather crucial evidence.
International Cooperation
The case has demonstrated the importance of international police cooperation. Brazilian Federal Police confirmed their role in detaining the Irish citizen for deportation purposes, noting the collaboration between multiple agencies including attachés in Colombia and the United Kingdom.
While gardaí cooperated with Brazilian officials, they played no direct role in the deportation process, and no extradition was sought as no charges have yet been brought in the case.
Community Appeal for Justice
As this investigation continues, gardaí are appealing to the public for any information that might assist in bringing justice for Daniel. The case serves as a stark reminder of our collective responsibility to protect vulnerable children in our communities.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Swords Garda Station on 01 666 4700, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
