Doneraile Murder Trial: Community Reeling After Fatal Night of Celebration
A Cork town's joyous hurling victory turned to unimaginable tragedy, a murder trial has heard, as a young man stands accused of killing a father of five in an escalation of violence that has left a community shattered.
The Night That Changed Doneraile
Alex Deady, 21, of Glenview, Convent Road, Doneraile in Co Cork, along with two juveniles aged 16 and 17 who cannot be named for legal reasons, are on trial at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork.
All three face charges of murdering Barry Daly at Rockview Terrace in Doneraile on 12 October 2025. The court heard that Mr Daly, a father of five, died of catastrophic head and facial injuries.
From Celebration to Violence
The trial heard how the people of Doneraile had gathered at Eily's Bar on Main Street to celebrate a major victory for the local hurling team in the Junior B Final. The atmosphere was one of pure community pride.
Mr Deady's girlfriend told the court she was outside the pub at closing time when Mr Daly struck her in the side of the face in what witnesses described as an unprovoked assault.
