Dublin-based Fusion Fuel Green PLC establishes groundbreaking joint venture in South Africa, marking significant advancement in Irish green technology expansion and industrial decarbonization efforts.

Fusion Fuel Green's innovative biomass energy facility concept for South African dairy industry
Dublin-based Fusion Fuel Green PLC (Nasdaq: HTOO) has marked a significant milestone in Ireland's global green energy expansion by finalizing a joint venture agreement with South Africa's Alien Fuel for a groundbreaking industrial decarbonization project.
Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Energy
The agreement, which follows Ireland's recent push to strengthen international trade relationships, establishes Biosteam Energy Proprietary Ltd, with Fusion Fuel holding a controlling 51% stake. This venture aims to revolutionize energy production at Fairfield Dairy, one of South Africa's largest dairy processing facilities.
Innovative Decarbonization Technology
The project, scheduled for operation in early 2026, will implement a cutting-edge biomass-powered steam generation system, replacing traditional fossil-fuel boilers. This initiative reflects similar innovative approaches seen in other Dublin-based companies leading global transitions.
Financial Structure and Environmental Impact
Fusion Fuel's commitment includes:
- R10 million (€480,000) initial investment
- Long-term recurring revenue through steam supply agreements
- Additional income from carbon credit generation
- Right of first refusal for future green energy projects
Strategic Growth and Market Expansion
This venture represents a significant expansion for Irish green technology abroad, following the pattern of other Irish companies adapting to global market demands. The company is also exploring additional strategic acquisitions, including potential ventures in digital and commodity asset treasury business.
"Through Biosteam Energy, Fusion Fuel and Alien Fuel are combining proprietary and proven technology and innovative financing structures to deliver measurable emissions reductions and long-term economic value," stated John-Paul Backwell, CEO of Fusion Fuel.
