Kessner Capital Launches Private Credit Fund to Boost African Investment

A groundbreaking investment initiative has emerged on the African continent, as Kessner Capital Management (KCM) officially launches its first private credit fund, operational since March 2024. The fund aims to address the critical financing gap for SMEs and support high-impact projects across Africa, marking a significant shift in the continent's financial landscape.

Revolutionising Alternative Capital in Africa

Led by a pan-African team with international finance expertise, Kessner Capital positions itself as a progressive alternative to traditional banking institutions, which have historically been reluctant to lend to small and medium enterprises. The fund's strategy focuses on direct lending to profitable companies in vital sectors including agribusiness, renewable energy, infrastructure, technology, and financial services.

"We're not just providing capital; we're building partnerships for sustainable growth," explain co-founders Bruno-Maurice Monny and Benny Osei. "Our mission is to serve as a long-term strategic partner, establishing strong governance, transparency, and measurable impact."

Addressing a Massive Market Gap

The potential is staggering: The World Bank estimates African SMEs face an annual financing deficit exceeding $331 billion, even as the continent's growth is projected at 5.7% for 2025. This presents an unprecedented opportunity for progressive investment approaches.

Kessner's innovative model offers flexible loans in both dollars and local currencies, with terms ranging from one month to three years. Their approach combines rigorous risk analysis with deep local market understanding across West, East, and Southern Africa.

Strong Partnerships, Independent Vision

While backed by Swiss private holding NFG SA and international structured finance specialists, Kessner Capital maintains its independence in investment decisions. This autonomy ensures decisions align with both local needs and global standards.

Experienced Leadership Driving Change

The fund is helmed by two complementary experts:

  • Bruno-Maurice Monny: Former J.P. Morgan and BNP Paribas executive, specialising in African structured credit
  • Benny Osei: Previously with Leifbridge Capital and Bloomberg, emerging markets specialist

Their advisory board includes notable figures such as former French Defense Minister Charles Millon and international investor Colin Rezek, bringing global perspective to local solutions.

Transforming African Access to Capital

"This initiative represents more than just a fund launch," states Monny. "It's about demonstrating that Africa's financial future can combine profitable investment with meaningful social impact, challenging traditional perceptions of risk and reward in emerging markets."
