Two Meath Secondary Schools Recognized for Life-Saving CPR Initiative

In a significant advancement for public health education, two Meath schools have received prestigious Irish Heart Foundation awards for their exceptional commitment to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. This initiative aligns with Ireland's broader commitment to social welfare and community development.

Award-Winning Schools Leading the Way

Eureka Secondary School in Kells and Loreto Secondary School St Michael's in Navan have emerged as pioneers in community-focused health initiatives, joining 31 other schools across Ireland in receiving recognition for their CPR training programs.

Nationwide Impact and Reach

The CPR 4 Schools programme has achieved remarkable penetration, with:

  • 90% of secondary schools participating
  • 2,630 teachers actively involved
  • 649 schools delivering training
  • Over 350,000 students reached nationwide
"This training has boosted student confidence and preparedness to act in emergencies, potentially doubling or tripling survival rates in cardiac emergency," states Aideen Mimnagh, Eureka Secondary School teacher.

Building a Nation of Lifesavers

The programme's success demonstrates Ireland's growing leadership in community-focused initiatives, with students learning essential skills including:

  • CPR performance in cardiac emergencies
  • AED (defibrillator) operation
  • Response protocols for choking incidents
  • Critical thinking and teamwork abilities

Post-primary school teachers interested in joining this life-saving initiative can register by emailing schools@irishheart.ie. The one-hour, video-led training program includes complete manikin kits and classroom resources.
