Eva Mangan Makes History with Cork City's First Women's Professional Contract

I'm delighted, absolutely over the moon. I grew up here, I have been at the club for several years now and it is a very proud moment for me and my family to have signed my first professional contract.

She spoke warmly of manager Derek Coughlan, a man who bleeds Cork City green.

Since Derek has come in, he's been absolutely brilliant with us. As everyone knows, he bleeds Cork City; he is very infectious that way. He's built a great camp since he has been in and, when you are enjoying things, that is when you play your best football, so we are all really enjoying things at the moment.

A Shining Light in a Rebuilding Side

Cork City picked up their first league win of the campaign in June by hammering Peamount United 6-0 at Turner's Cross. They have shown encouraging signs of improvement under Coughlan, who says Mangan is crucial to their long-term ambitions.

I am absolutely thrilled that Eva has signed a long-term contract with the club,

Coughlan said.

It was our number one priority when I took the role to ensure that Eva was with us to lead this young talented group of players into the future and I'm delighted that the club has made this happen.

He added:

Eva is fast approaching 150 appearances for the club and she is still only 21 years of age. She has become one of the top players in the country and she has achieved this in a side that hasn't been winning many games. Eva is a shining light to all the young players in Cork and I'm excited to see where her career goes next, as I believe she is only getting started.

Irish Talent on the Move

Elsewhere, Republic of Ireland international Jamie Finn has joined the Irish contingent at WSL2 side Burnley. The 28-year-old Swords woman has agreed a two-year deal with the Clarets after leaving Sunderland earlier this summer.

I'm very excited to be here and I'm happy to sign for this club,

said Finn.

It's a massive club with a lot of history. The conversations that I've had with the club and the management team have been very positive. Their ambitions are really good, and I want to be a part of that.

Finn follows in the footsteps of compatriot Tyler Toland, who has also agreed a two-year contract at Burnley, with the club holding a one-year extension option. Toland departed Durham at the end of last season.

I'm buzzing to be here, and I can't wait to get started really,

she said.

Speaking to people around the building, the club has huge ambitions, as do I for the next couple of years. It's a very exciting project to be a part of.

Earlier this month, ex-Cork City defender Kiera Sena also arrived at Burnley, having moved on from Southampton.
